Genoese basil cultivation began in Genoa in the 19th century and quickly spread along the Ligurian coast, which proved ideal for producing a product with unique characteristics. Genoese basil DOP is a cornerstone of Liguria's gastronomic tradition.

Land and territory

Genoese Basil DOP is grown along the coastal coast of Liguria: the close connection between the territory and the product's characteristics is due to its microclimate and, above all, to the traditional cultivation on natural soil.

Typical cultivation and human factor

The production regulations include unique cultivation, harvesting, and packaging methods developed over time by local farmers: these are the methods that ensure the typical characteristics of Genoese Basil DOP, both for fresh consumption and for the food industry.
