BASIL LABELLING: WHAT’S THERE TO KNOW?
The sales label: clear rules
✔ Genoese Basil DOP: may state “ LIGURIA ” as the origin.
❌ NON-DOP Basil: cannot indicate place names in Liguria (e.g. Pra’, Albenga).
Caution! Even if the basil comes from a company located in Liguria, indicating its provenance is prohibited. If a DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) certifies its origin, it is prohibited to refer to the origin of the corresponding generic product.

- Basil (without DOP, therefore generic)
Packaging: how to distinguish them?
- Genoese Basil DOP: two DOP brands and full company address.
- Non-PDO basil: no PDO markings, address optional.
