Pursuant to the law, Consortia for the protection of Designations of Origin may be established, upon assignment by the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies , based on representativeness requirements and ensuring balanced representation in their corporate bodies.
The Consortium for the Protection of Genoese Basil DOP was recognized in 2008.
through the dissemination of the brand and the specific characteristics of the PDO product among consumers and traders using promotional programs.
by raising awareness among producers to maintain the product’s traditional characteristics intact with specific protection measures and by implementing the project agreed upon with the Central Inspectorate for the Protection of Quality and the Repression of Fraud in Agri-food Products.
In a complex and competitive global market, protecting traditional products is a mission that must be carried out in an institutional and organized manner. This is why the Consortium for the Protection of Genoese Basil DOP was created.
The Consortium performs advisory duties on the product and its regulations, defines programs for improving the quality of production, promotes resolutions, and collaborates through supervisory agents to safeguard the PDO from abuse, unfair competition, counterfeiting, improper use of protected names , and other prohibited behavior.
The Consortium for the Protection of Genoese Basil DOP was established on the initiative of producers . Membership is optional for Genoese Basil DOP producers, once registered with the Certification System, with the aim of participating in the promotion and protection of the certified product.
The Consortium is managed by the Board of Directors.
