History

Basil was introduced to Liguria by the Romans, who chose it for its healing properties. It became an important crop, first in Genoa and then on the Ligurian Riviera, starting in the 19th century, thanks to the construction of cutting-edge greenhouses for the time. This cultivation led to its PDO recognition in 2006.
