Pesto Science Experience: Genoese Basil DOP and Riviera Ligure Olive Oil DOP workshop at the 2023 Science Festival

The Genoa Science Festival is an international event promoting scientific culture. From October 26th to November 5th, for the 2023 edition, the city of Genoa will open the doors of its magnificent cultural venues to host a rich program of conferences, exhibitions, workshops, shows, and other events.

This edition will proudly host, among its official events, a program of workshops under the “ Taste Liguria ” banner, an immersive experience for primary school children, curated by the Consortium for the Protection of Genoese Basil DOP and the Consortium for the Protection of Riviera Ligure DOP Oil in collaboration with the Teatro del Piccione.

An experience that begins emotionally and becomes scientifically grounded, showcasing the tradition of pesto and uncovering the secrets of its most important and… slightly magical ingredients. A workshop that begins with a theatrical performance, then a tasting, and finally a scientific one, concluding with a hands-on activity to have fun, be inspired, and learn together about the excellence and traditions of the metropolitan city of Genoa and Liguria. It all begins with a drop and a plant unique in the world, born many years ago in Liguria: Olio Riviera Ligure DOP and Basilico Genovese DOP. The first stage of the journey will serve to get to know them, befriend them, and learn to distinguish and appreciate them. Only those who know how to taste and recognize them among all the other myriad drops and plants will be able to enter the gates of the “Consortium” and prepare to prepare the one and only Genoese pesto with a mortar. This activity was developed to offer local children and teachers a unique and valuable experience and to raise the bar for Ligurian gastronomy, for which Genoese Basil and Riviera Ligure Oil (both certified with the DOP seal) are global ambassadors.
