“ It is harvested by hand, plant by plant, until the traditional bunch is formed: it is the highly fragrant Genoese Basil, a fundamental ingredient of pesto.”
Thus opens the report by journalist Georgina Zapparoli broadcast on Rai2 as part of the TG2 special on the Regatta of the Ancient Italian Maritime Republics, which took place live from Genoa on October 13, 2024.
The report aimed to celebrate the value of Genoese Basil DOP production, which takes place in the historically renowned area of Genoa Pra’, from which cultivation later expanded throughout Liguria and which today (along with other areas of Liguria) maintains its specialization in the production of bouquets destined for the fresh market.
The choice of a media service to describe Genoese Basil DOP as a representative element of the culture and history of our territory demonstrates once again how the product with its DOP has acquired a unanimous value in the imagination of our Liguria in the world.
