Preserving the traditional aroma associated with cultivation on natural soil and following precise production guidelines is the commitment of all producers belonging to the Consortium for the Protection of Genoese Basil DOP. They use the official brand to identify their products, the same one you can find in shops and supermarkets both as a bouquet of fresh Genoese Basil DOP and as an ingredient in food preparations.

In the fresh bouquet, it is the presence of natural, visibly soft earth that characterizes Basilico Genovese DOP.

The production of fresh Genoese DOP basil requires the farmer’s skill and care to play a crucial role.

The packaging method for the fresh product is unique: the extreme freshness of the product is maintained thanks to the fact that the whole plants, complete with roots, are available on the market.

The bouquet is marked with the DOP logos and reports the data of the producing company.

The product tag clearly states the full wording “GENOVESE BASIL DOP”.

As an ingredient in industrial and artisanal food products , Genoese Basil DOP comes from crops grown mostly in open fields in the summer (or in some cases in specialized greenhouses for this production). Farmers harvest the product by cutting it through ” topping, ” that is, by cutting only the tops of the plants: the youngest, tenderest, and most fragrant, to maximize its aroma.

All products that use Genoese Basil DOP include it in the list of ingredients and it is often indicated on the front label (as a secondary indication), accompanied by the product logo, with the authorization of the Protection Consortium.
